A suspended profile disappears from Maps and search. Your reviews go with it. It is recoverable — but only if you fix the cause before you appeal.
The mistake that causes most suspensions
Putting keywords in the business name. “Best Phone Store Enugu” instead of the registered name. “Kendera Skincare — Cheapest Cosmetics Achara” instead of “Kendera Skincare & Cosmetics Ventures”.
It is tempting because it looks like it should help ranking. It does the opposite: Google treats it as manipulation, and it is the single most common reason a Nigerian profile is taken down. Your name field must match your signboard and your registration.
The other causes, in order of how often we see them
- An address that cannot be confirmed — or one that is not eligible at all, such as a PO box or a virtual office.
- Duplicate listings. Creating a second profile because the first would not verify. Google finds both and suspends.
- A category that does not match what the business does.
- Rapid edits after verification — changing name, address and category all at once immediately after approval triggers a fresh review.
- A business type with extra scrutiny, such as financial services or anything health related.
- Sharing an address with several other listings that cannot be told apart.
What to do, in order
- Do not create another profile. This is the instinct, and it is the worst possible move. A duplicate makes recovery harder and can suspend your whole account.
- Work out the cause. Compare your profile against the list above. Be honest — if there were keywords in the name, that is your answer.
- Fix it first. Correct the name to match your signage. Fix the address or the pin. Correct the category.
- Gather evidence. Your CAC certificate, a photograph of your signboard, a utility bill for the premises, anything that proves the business is real and yours.
- Submit the reinstatement request. State plainly what the business is, where it operates, and what you corrected. Do not argue — explain.
- Wait. Reviews take time. Submitting repeatedly does not speed it up and can hurt.
What you can lose
If a profile is removed permanently, the reviews attached to it go too. For a business that spent years earning a 4.8 rating, that is the real loss — far more than the listing itself. It is why recovery is worth doing properly rather than quickly.
How to avoid it happening again
- Name field: your real name, nothing else, forever.
- One profile per business location. Never two.
- Make major changes one at a time, with days in between.
- Keep your name, address and phone number identical everywhere they appear online.
